A step-by-step guide to installing a new monitor on your computer

So, today is the day you decide to connect your computer and monitor. He takes the monitor and monitor cable out of the box, reviews the manual and the next thing he knows; you are sitting on the floor stressed. Wondering where to start! Being a company that sells computer accessories online, we often come across customers asking about computer cables and how to connect their computer systems.

Through today's blog, we will provide you with a systematic guide to installing a new monitor on your computer.

Step 1: Replace the old, install new

As a first step, you need to get rid of the old monitor. Therefore, turn off your computer and unplug the monitor cable from behind your old monitor. Once you've done that, you can ditch the old monitor. You may want to use the same cables to set up your new monitor. However, whether or not you should use new connections depends on the type of system you have.

Clean up the old area and remove keyboards, accessories, and other paraphernalia from the place. This will create a room for your new monitor. Also, keep the area well ventilated, as you would need some space and light to install the monitor properly.

Step 2: Unpacking the New

Next, you need to unpack the new monitor. Be careful when removing it as some of them can be very bulky and large and cause an accident. So please enlist someone's help and install it in the right place. Don't be in a rush to plug it in and turn it on. Try to decipher the user manual and the guidelines in it without feeling overwhelmed.

There are times when instructions are not written in understandable language and diagrams are cumbersome. However, if you read it patiently and try to know in detail the accessories and cables of the computer; you will better understand how to install them.

Step 3: Time to connect

Once you have installed the monitor and read the user manual, you must decide which monitor cable goes where. The power cord would be the most apparent. It is known as the lead of the kettle since its structure is like the lead of a kettle. Thereafter, you have to decide which cable will go in which part of the monitor from the 3 or 4 available options.

You will find a displayport connector as part of the accessories. If it doesn't come with it, you can always order display ports online. Connect one end (the larger one) to the monitor and the other end to the computer. Next comes the DVI connector. These monitor cables usually have white ends. If the size of your computer is between 27 and 30 inches, you will need a dual-link DVI cable.

If your laptops and monitors work with the HDMI connection, you can use an HDMI cable. But if your laptop works on HDMI and your monitor works on display port, you can use HDMI for other connection adapters. Since the monitor you are about to use is brand new (we assume), there is almost no chance that the analog VGA connector is there. And last but not least, you can also find a USB cable in case you want to make USB connections.

Step 4: turn it on

Turn on the switch for your outlet. The monitor will start for a few seconds and go into standby mode with the power indicator on. In case you don't see the light, you can check the power switches on the back of the monitor. As soon as you realize it is working, you can start your computer.

Remember, the monitor must be turned on first so that the graphics card and monitor can interact with each other while the computer starts up. In a few seconds, you should be able to see the screen on your monitor.

Step 5: Control panel setup

Last but not least, you will need to make a few adjustments to your control panel. This is because you would like to arrange the virtual monitors on the screen according to the physical arrangement of your monitors. Go to Control Panel >> Appearance >> Display. Thereafter, you can drag the monitors into the correct arrangement so that they are positioned correctly.

There is also an option to extend the screen or display your screen on one monitor while keeping another blank. You can change the title bar from one screen to another.
